Gwen Cofield joined DMOI as Communications Director in June 2019. In this role, she works with DMOI leadership on messaging about Mayoral and DMOI initiatives and serves as the communication liaison between agency and Mayoral communications offices. Previously, Gwen served for 3 years as the communications director for the DC Department of Housing and Community Development, where she helped to advance messaging about the Mayor’s historic affordable housing investments.

Before joining the District government, Gwen had an established publishing career that included serving as the Associate Publisher for a local business to business publisher. There, she promoted and created best-selling publications on top policy issues, such as health care reform, family and medical leave, and wage-and-hour reform. Gwen has also served in leadership roles within her Ward 4 community of Riggs Park. She is a native of Baltimore and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Howard University.
