Melissa Shear is a Senior Attorney Advisor and the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor (TSRP) with the District's Highway Safety Office. As the TSRP, Melissa works as a specialized attorney equipping prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and other traffic safety professionals with the resources necessary to combat impaired driving. As a nationally recognized expert in impaired driving, she trains, provides legal advice, renders trial assistance to prosecutors and officers, assists in drafting legislation, all while maintaining a robust caseload of serious impaired driving offenses. She also educates stakeholders and community members in the fight against impaired driving. Previously, she served as the Assistant Attorney General in the Public Safety Division of the Office of the Attorney General, and began her legal career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the New York City Law Department. Melissa received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Indiana University, Bloomington and her juris doctorate from New York Law School. She resides in Bethesda, MD with her husband, two sons, and dog.
