(Washington, DC) – On Friday, February 26, at 1:00 p.m., Lucinda Babers, Deputy Mayor of Operations and Infrastructure, will give remarks on DC Mayor Muriel Bowser’s behalf during NASA’s Mary W. Jackson Renaming Ceremony.  On June 24, 2020, NASA named the agency’s headquarters building, formerly known as Two Independence Square, after Mary W. Jackson, the first African American female engineer at NASA. Jackson was one of the African-American women immortalized in the film “Hidden Figures.” During the February 26 event, official building signage will be unveiled and there will reflections on Jackson’s career and legacy from work family and friends, current and former NASA employees and astronauts, celebrities, elected officials and others.  Also, Events DC commissioned female artists of color from the DC metropolitan area to interpret what this extraordinary moment means to them, to include a video profiling the artists. This will go live later today at gatherthedistrict.com/mary-w-jackson-art. Tenbeete Solomon (aka Trap Bob) will be representing the artists at the ceremony.
